Latah County has an exciting job opportunity for a Building Inspector/Plans Examiner to work as part of the Planning, Building & GIS Department team.

The building inspector/plans examiner performs plan reviews and inspections to determine compliance with applicable codes, enforces applicable county ordinances, conducts code research, completes paperwork and database entries, and works with builders and the public.

The position requires range of skills necessary to perform in a rural jurisdiction. The successful candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of the various principles and practices of building inspection, building construction and building design, including thorough knowledge of building, property maintenance, mechanical and fuel gas codes, math as applicable to building, and building codes. Candidates must be proficient with the use of computers for  research, database management and use, document preparation, plan review/building calculation software, and inspection documentation.

Building Inspector I requires a high school diploma or equivalent, one year experience, and ICC certifications in Residential Building Inspector and Residential Mechanical Inspector. Building Inspector/Plans Examiner requires a  bachelor’s degree (or equivalent knowledge in building inspection and construction), two years’ experience in building inspection or related field, and additional ICC certifications in Residential and Commercial Plans Examiner, Commercial Building Inspector and Commercial Mechanical Inspector. Candidates must possess excellent customer service, public relations skills, and tact. All applicants must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

This is a full time position. The salary range for Building Inspector I is $39,960 to $58,908 DOE.

The salary range for Building Inspector/Plans Examiner is $49,836 to $73,788 DOE. This position has a full benefits package.
