Under the direction of the Community Development Director, the Building Official performs work necessary to manage the City's Permit Center and the daily operations of the City's building plan review, inspection & permitting functions, and tax & licensing. Duties include preparing recommendations to the Director on the division's work program and budget, providing supervisory direction to others in executing the division's work programs, and managing the Community Development Department when the Director is absent. The Building Official directly oversees 4 FTE's in the Building Plan Review & Inspection group, and 2 FTE's in Tax and Licensing, a new division for the department.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field is required. A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in building code enforcement as an inspector, plans examiner, or comparable private sector position is required, as well as 2 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial position. Certification as a Building Inspector, Plans Examiner, or Building Official through the International Code Council is required. Certification as a Building Official by the ICC is preferred. Candidates may possess any combination of relevant education and experience that demonstrates their ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
