Welcome...

to the official website of the Idaho Association of Building Officials (IDABO), an official chapter of the International Code Council. IDABO was first recognized as an official chapter of the International Conference of Building Officials in 1958. In our first fifty years of existence we’ve undergone several name changes and seen the merger of three national model code organizations into the current International Code Council.

As 2009 begins, most of us are looking at the issues that each of us and our respective organizations are experiencing. Most importantly, it is the reality we have to face. This includes issues that revolve around the complexities of national and global economics, changes in the political environment both nationally and around the world, and the changes in the business climate that continue to affect us.

This is truly an exciting and incredible year for the Idaho Association of Building Officials. By every measure, we continue to make great strides in our efforts to become the premiere ICC model organization diligently serving our membership and the many stakeholders who rely on our services. The tremendous success we have achieved is in part due to the remarkable work of men and women in our industry who have continued to uphold the protection of life, health, and property to a solemn responsibility of the highest order.

Nowhere is our success more evident than in the outcome of the educational services we provide as part of the Annual Education Institute. Through continued planning and preparation, the work of the officers, co-chairs, and the Education Committee has successfully provided for the needs of over130 code officials throughout the State of Idaho, the surrounding areas and as far away as Iowa.

We have taken a serious approach to our responsibility as an organization to further our scope within the realm of state and local issues:

  • in support of the State Building Code Board
  • addressing the state statutes regarding school plan reviews
  • working with our local and state contractors

Our perseverance to succeed as an organization relies on the confidence of our membership and the momentum created thus far; we cannot afford to pause as the world continues to change around us in terms of economics, environment, technology, and the greatest challenge of our time – managing sustainable construction.

We have to build and strengthen our organization, recruit member cities, private companies, and professional individuals who can help further our quest to be a choice provider in professional development. The work of many professionals who are engaged in the administration and enforcement of building regulatory codes is the key ingredient we count on.

I have the greatest sense of pride to be a member of such a fine organization and am truly honored to work with individuals who are committed to their profession.
